Painting Tips
Top Tips for Painting
Tuesday 9th February 2016
Over the weekend, I did the first coat of paint in our bathroom. So I decided to share some tips with you about painting.
Tip 1.
Remove any jewelry you think might come into contact with the paint. For me that was removing the two rings I wear. For others, it might just be a bracelet.
Tip 2.
Wear old clothes or ones you don't mind getting stained with paint. If you have long hair wear it up otherwise... No matter how hard you try you will more than likely still get paint on you. Storytime! When we were painting our living room I was setting up the kitchen and we had some visitors so I thought I would show them the new house. Of course, me being the brightest apple on the tree I leant on the freshly painted wall. That shirt was a favourite of mine.
Tip 3.
Invest in some masking tape or painters tape to go around edge / boarders. Like window seals, tiles that may be there or just any object that sticks out of the wall or surface you are planning to paint. For me, it was the tiles, the side of the sink cupboard and the door and window frame. Once that's done it's on to...
Tip 4.
Put down some old plastic or tarp or even an old sheet to catch any drips or spatters that might occur during the painting process. We have a large tarp for large rooms and a much, much smaller tarp for smaller jobs, that you move around the room with you.
Tip 5.
If you are the one going out and buying the paint I suggest you think about choosing water-based paint rather than oil. I'm not sure if there is a lot of different between the two on the wall but, water-based is much easier to clean as you don't need to go out and buy turpentine like you would if you used oil based.
Tip 6.
Decide if you are going to be using a roller or a paint brush. Different jobs require different tools. For me when painting our bathroom, I used both. First I used the roller and painted all the large areas and anywhere else I could get it into. Then I used a paint brush around the edges and anywhere the roller wouldn't fit.
Tip 7.
Get a paint stirrer. Not going to lie but I have used a stick before that I found in the garden. It does work but then there is a risk of it breaking in the paint tin or just leaving flecks of stick behind. The other day when I was painting I couldn't for the life of me find our paint stirrer. I did eventually find it but that was after I had gotten our now old potato masher out of the draw and used. I didn't like that masher anyway.
Last but not least,
Tip 8.
IYou've started painting but for some reason, you need to stop and postpone the painting until later. Instead of washing the roller and used a whole lot of water, just get a plastic bag one you got when shopping last. Put your roller into it and wrap it up tight making sure no air can get in. That way you can use your roller again but you don't have to worry about washing it multiple times.
That my dear lovelies is my eight top tips for painting.
(Sorry it's a day late). I hope they come in handy for you in the future. Have a lovely day and a productive week.
Bye!!
