Pets!!

Pets. Everyone has them. From cats and dogs to lizards and cockroaches. Big to small. Scales to fur.
The point is pets come in all shapes and sizes and most people have them. The most common pets are a cat or a dog, or both. Other popular pets are mice, fish, chickens, rabbits and or birds.
I grow up with my dad having a pet dog, my mum a cat. My brother had some pet birds and there were also an array of chickens and other birds in the backyard. Personally the only pet that I could call my own was my pet bunny whom I loved very much until his passing a couple years ago. I still miss him.
But recently I have moved out of my family home into a new place with my weirdo and we have adopted a kitten, which I named Marvel.
I have always wanted a pet kitten of my own. My mum has a cat that I grew up with but she was an inside outside cat. She could come and go as she pleased. And most of the time she pleased to be away from my brother and I. I believe our wrestling may have put her off. The years growing up I did see quite a bit of my mums cat but it was usually from a distance and if it was up close, it involved claws in my arm because I had woken her from a nap. (Which aparently most pets dont like I've found).
Having Marvel is a similar stress to looking after a child, I can hear all those mums out there going "Having a pet is easier than having a child!". They would be right its not the same but for someone who has never had a pet they had to watch out for all the time, it has been a little stressful. When I had my bunny, he had a nice hutch he lived in. But with Marvel, he has the whole house. He also has extra places he can get to that I can't. Like window sills and open draws and cupboards.
One thing I have always wanted when it came to having a kitten was, having an inside kitten. It meant not having to worry about letting him in at night time and not needing to let him out whenever he needed the toilet. He has been outside, but it was under complete supervision or on a harness and lead. One time when he was outside I lost sight of him for a moment and I thought he had gotten under the gate and out onto the room. Of course jumping to conclusions doesnt help, because he was just behind a bush watching the chickens.
That is when it made me feel like owning a kitten was like looking after a child. In some ways having a kitten is easier and in other ways its harder. Children can be plopped down in front of a TV or electronical device or given a toy to play with and they will be set for a little while. But with a kitten he will play with his toy for about 7 minutes then see you doing something interesting or headng towards a door that leads into the outside world and is off in a flash to investigate what you are up too.
When I started this post I was originally going to talk about the weird things Marvel gets up too and his bizaar habits, but it got a bit away from me. As I said in an older post about writing, sometimes when you start its hard to stop.
If you want to share any pets you have feel free to comment about them below. I would love to read about them!!
